Why UpSync
What you get out of it
Real client work
You are staffed on a live engagement your first semester — startups through Fortune 100 companies, on both business strategy and hands-on technical delivery.
Mentorship that is structured
Every project team is led by a project manager, and professional development workshops run throughout the semester rather than as one-off events.
An alumni network that answers
Our members go on to OpenAI, Databricks, Amazon, Two Sigma, Evercore, and more — and they stay reachable.
A community, not a resume line
Retreats, banquets, and socials each semester. The work is better when you actually like the people you do it with.
Coffee Chats
Talk to a member first
A coffee chat is an informal conversation with someone currently in the club. Ask what the work actually looks like, how much time it takes, or what a project semester feels like. They are optional and are never scored as part of your application.
Scheduling opens alongside the application. Until then, the interest list is the best way to hear about chat availability first.

Recruitment & Interviews
Who can apply?
All UC Berkeley undergraduates are welcome to apply, regardless of major or year. We recruit for both business and technical tracks, and no prior consulting experience is required.
What is a coffee chat and do I need one?
A coffee chat is an informal conversation with a current member to learn about the club and ask questions. They are optional and are not a scored part of the application, but they are the best way to get a genuine sense of whether UpSync is a fit for you.
General
What is consulting?
Consultants provide advice, guidance, and solutions to organizations or individuals. They draw on expertise across strategy, operations, technology, finance, and marketing to help clients solve problems and make decisions.
What is technology consulting?
Technology consulting applies that same advisory work to the technology sector — software development, data analysis, business intelligence, machine learning, and digital strategy.
What differentiates UpSync?
We blend technology with traditional business consulting. Past work has ranged from pure software engineering to hosting hackathons, marketing campaigns, and product launches. Our members come from computer science, data science, economics, business, and psychology backgrounds rather than a single typical consulting profile — and we care about enjoying the work together as much as doing it well.
What does UpSync do?
We deliver tailored recommendations and technical solutions for clients ranging from early-stage startups to Fortune 100 companies, spanning both business strategy and hands-on engineering.
How do projects work?
New members are placed on a client team matched to their skills and goals. Each team is led by a project manager who provides guidance throughout the semester, so you learn the work while doing it.
